What is GENOTYPE?
Why do I have to check it before I get married?
I get this question everyday.
Genotype is simply your genetic constituent as an individual.
It is imperative to know your genotype befor you decide to say “YES I DO!”
In other to avoid having children with sickle cell disease.
Types of genotype includes:
AA, AS,AC,SS,SC & CC
COMPATIBILE GENOTYPE FOR MARRIAGE CHART
PARENTS: AA + AA = AA KIDS (BEST)
PARENTS: AA + AS = AA & AS KIDS (Good)
PARENTS: AA + SS = AS & AS KIDS (Fair)
PARENTS: AA + AC = AA & AC KIDS. (Good)
PARENTS: AS + AS = AA, AS & SS KIDS (Very Bad)
PARENTS: AS + SS = AS & SS KIDS (Very Bad)
PARENTS: AS + AC = AA, AC, AS & SS KIDS. (Bad; Not advisable)
PARENT: SS + SS = ALL SS KIDS (NOT TO BE THOUGHT ABOUT)
PARENTS: AC + SS = AS, & SC KIDS (Very Bad)
PARENT: AC + AC = AA, AC & CC KIDS. ( Bad)
The SS, SC and CC are those with the sickle cell disorder.
While the AS and AC are carriers with the sickle cell traits.
The only solution to genotype disorder is the bone marrow transplant (BMT).
It has been proven to be the only promising permanent cure to SS, SC, and CC; however It also has its own risks.
